Assumption model

Every fee parameter below is editable; the defaults reflect a typical 2026 US structure (Etsy 6.5% + 3%/$0.25 + $0.20 listing, Shopify Basic $39/mo + 2.9%/$0.30). Reset buttons restore the 2026 defaults. Trust the output only as far as your assumptions.

Etsy net per order

Gross revenue (item + shipping charged) minus COGS, shipping cost, and the four Etsy fee rails: transaction %, payment processing %+flat, listing fee, and optional off-site ad %. A negative net means you lose money on every order at current pricing.

Etsy margin

Net per order divided by item price. Zero or below is FAIL; below ~15% is a warning zone worth re-pricing or renegotiating shipping costs. The break-even price tells you the exact item price that brings net back to zero.

Shopify net per order

Net before fixed monthly costs — item + shipping revenue minus COGS, shipping cost, and payment-processing %+flat. Storefront overhead is not charged to this number; the plan break-even module handles subscriptions.

Shopify margin

Variable net per order divided by item price, ignoring the monthly plan. If this is healthy but break-even orders are high, your plan cost is the drag; if it is negative, no sales volume can save the store.

Plan break-even

Monthly fixed cost (plan + app fees) divided by variable net per order — the orders you must sell before the subscription pays for itself. If variable net per order is zero or negative, the plan is unreachable at current pricing.

These are assumptions, not guarantees. Shopify Payments rates scale with plan (Basic 2.9%+$0.30, Shopify 2.6%+$0.30, Advanced 2.4%+$0.30); third-party gateways add ~0.5–1%.
