Estimate lean body mass using Boer, James & Hume formulas
Body weight in kg or lbs. Required range: 20–300 kg. Enter current measured weight, not a target weight.
Standing height in cm or inches. Required range: 100–250 cm. Measure without shoes for best accuracy.
Age in years. Required range: 15–100. Used by the James formula to account for age-related body composition changes.
All three LBM formulas use gender-specific coefficients. Male and female formulas differ due to natural differences in body composition and fat distribution.
Developed by Boer for clinical use. A widely used anthropometric estimation.
Male: 0.407×W + 0.267×H − 19.2
Female: 0.252×W + 0.473×H − 20.4
W = weight in kg, H = height in cm
Developed by WPT James. Accounts for age and uses a squared weight-to-height ratio.
Male: 1.1×W − 128×(W/H)²
Female: 1.07×W − 148×(W/H)²
W = weight in kg, H = height in cm
Developed by R Hume. Uses different regression coefficients from the other methods.
Male: 0.32810×W + 0.33929×H − 29.5336
Female: 0.29569×W + 0.41813×H − 43.2
W = weight in kg, H = height in cm
