Cold Storage Thermal Load Estimator

Estimate the refrigeration (heat) load of a cold-storage room from envelope area, insulation R-value, inside target temperature, outside design temperature, and a temperature-difference safety factor. Output is heat leak in BTU/hr and tons of refrigeration (TR) for compressor sizing.

Cold-storage envelope heat-leak estimate (walls + ceiling + floor) via the conduction equation Q = U·A·ΔT, where U = 1/R. Applies only to the thermal transmission load of the building envelope; it does not include product load, internal heat, infiltration/air changes, equipment heat, or door losses, which a full refrigeration load calculation would add. For compressor sizing, add a margin for those loads and consult a refrigeration engineer.
